Resumen

Esta investigación es un análisis histórico sobre la ampliación de la Unión Europea (UE) a Europa central y del este. La caída del totalitarismo comunista se toma como punto de partida, analizándose las posibilidades abiertas desde distintas perspectivas. A continuación, el artículo desarrolla qué significó la UE para estos nuevos miembros y viceversa. Se busca clarificar las raíces históricas de las divergencias más relevantes que han generado tensiones en el seno de la UE tras la ampliación a Europa central y oriental, en un proyecto basado en una evolución constante hacia una convergencia real entre sus miembros.
