Style Guide
- The length of the manuscript/study shall not exceed 100,000 characters including spaces. It shall be written and published either in Spanish or in English.
- The following style rules shall be observed for the evaluation of the original manuscripts.
- Each original shall include the following elements:
- Title, in Spanish and in English.
- Name, professional position and place of work of the author.
- Abstract of the contribution of no more than 250 words, in Spanish and in English.
- Keywords, in Spanish and in English.
- Summary of the contribution.
- Date of completion of the manuscript.
- List of abbreviations used (in the first footnote citation).
- Complete final bibliography in alphabetical order.
- The format of the manuscript shall conform to the following rules:
- TITLE: Times New Roman 14 font, uppercase, 1.3 spacing, 6 point space between paragraphs.
- Author's name in capital letters, professional position and place of work, orcid: Times New Roman 12 font, lowercase, 1.3 spacing, 6 point space between paragraphs.
- ABSTRACT: Times New Roman 12, lowercase, 1.3 spacing.
- SUMMARY: Times New Roman 12, 1.3 spacing. It must gather all the headings in continuous line respecting the given format.
Example: SUMMARY: 1. INTRODUCTION.—2. THE PUBLIC SERVICE AS AN ORDINARY IDEA.—3. WELFARE PROCUREMENT AND PUBLIC SERVICE: 3.1. Authoritative Foundations. 3.2. Connections. 3.2.1. Crisis of parliamentarism. 3.2.2. The administrative State.
- HEADINGS:
- First level of heading: Arabic numerals and Times New Roman 12 font, capital and bold. Example: 1. INTRODUCTION
- Second level of epigraph: Arabic numerals and Times New Roman 12 font, lowercase and bold. Example: 1.2. Authoritative Foundations
- Third level of heading: Arabic numerals and Times New Roman 12 font, lowercase and italic. Example: 1.2.1. Crisis of Parliamentarism
- Fourth level of heading: Arabic numerals and Times New Roman 12, round lowercase. Example: 1.2.1.1. The Administrative State
- Main text: Times New Roman 12 font, 1.3 spacing, 6 point space between paragraphs. The main text shall not have bold marks. Italics are allowed.
- Footnotes: Times New Roman 10 font, 1.2 spacing, 6 point space between paragraphs. The footnote text shall not have bold marks. Italics are allowed.
- Tables and figures: they shall have a concise heading and try to respect an orderly and simple format.
- Bibliographical, jurisprudential or statistical references may be included into the main text or in the footnotes. In both cases, they shall be accompanied by a final list of all works cited.
- Format of the bibliographical references in footnotes, in main text and in the final bibliographical list of the citations:
- Books: Initial of first name SURNAME, Full title in italics, edition number, publisher, place, year, pp. cited.
- For example: S. SASSEN, The global city, 2nd ed., Princeton University Press, New York, London and Tokyo, 2001, p. 201.
- Book chapters: Initial of first name SURNAME, “Full title”, in initial of the first name SURNAME (ed., dir., coord.), Title of the work in italics, edition number, publisher, place, year, initial and final pages (p. cited). For example: G. DOMÉNECH PASCUAL, “La regulación de la economía colaborativa en el transporte urbano de pasajeros”, in J. J. MONTERO PASCUAL (ed.), La regulación de la economía colaborativa. Airbnb, BlaBlaCar, Uber y otras plataformas, Tirant lo Blanch, Valencia, 2017, pp. 351-401 (p. 360).
- Articles in scientific journals: Initial of first name SURNAME, “Full title”, Name of the journal in italics, no. X, year, number of initial and final page of the article (p. cited).
- For example: S. DÍEZ SASTRE, “La formación de conceptos dogmáticos en el Derecho público”, Revista Jurídica de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, núm. 31, 2015, pp. 105-135 (p. 120).
- Format of bibliographic references in the main text in parentheses: SURNAME or SURNAMES, year: page number cited.
For example: (PAREJO, 2016: 83).
When several works of an author published in the same year are cited, each of them will be identified with a lowercase letter.
For example: (PAREJO, 2016a: 83).
- Second and successive citations of a bibliographical reference already included in a previous footnote may be written in any format that is common in the academic field. The following is recommended: DOMÉNECH, 2017: 360.
- Format of case-law citations: any format commonly used in the legal community is valid, as long as it remains uniform throughout the text and allows identification. The following formats are recommended: the ECLI number; or the number of the judgment followed by its date. If the judgment does not have an order number, it is recommended to cite by the date, followed by the number of the appeal.
