Resumen

La exposición «Álbumes de Familia. Fotografías de la Diáspora Africana en la Gran Lisboa (1975-hoy)» tuvo lugar en Lisboa, en el Padrão dos Descobrimentos, entre el 28 de abril y el 1 de diciembre de 2024. La fecha no era aleatoria: en 2024 se celebraron en Portugal los cincuenta años del 25 de abril de 1974, la Revolución de los Claveles, que inició la democracia portuguesa y el fin del colonialismo en África, que culminó en 1975 con las independencias de los países africanos. La exposición sobrepuso dos historias —la de la diáspora africana lisboeta y la de la fotografía como autobiografía visual— para mostrar cómo las historias personales se entrecruzan con la historia colectiva, pública, política, nacional e internacional. Su ubicación en el monumento de 1940 a los «Descubrimientos», edificio contestado y objeto de debates públicos, permitió valorizar y visibilizar la memoria negra, la vida y la ciudadanía de las personas negras, portuguesas o residentes en Portugal, mediante la imagen y la palabra escrita sobre sus fotografías. La fotografía familiar, personal y subjetiva, actuó como hilo conductor de las narrativas y memorias visuales autobiográficas expuestas. En este artículo, y como una de las comisarias de esa exposición, reflexionaré sobre las ideas e iniciativas que la inspiraron y sobre las reacciones que suscitó.
